Tips for Truck Tires

Most truck drivers would agree that next to gasoline, tires are the most important item in long drives.  Tires help you get around rough terrain, dangerous snow-paved roads.  As such, tires must be properly maintained.

Unfortunately not everyone are aware how crucial tire can be. Tire maintenance need not necessarily be only for mechanics.  Truck owner and truck drivers can observe the following tips in maintaining their truck tire condition and ensuring road safety.

Regularly check the pressure of your tires to make sure that they are not either overfilled or deflated.  If the tires are overfilled, they run the risk of exploding.  On the other hand, if tires are deflated, you are only applying unnecessary strain on the rubber and running the risk of it tearing.

Replace old tires.  If the rubber becomes too thin, your wheels are likely to skid.  One way to check if your tire is too old or too worn out for safe use is to insert a penny between the treads.  On a smaller-sized vehicle, the treads should reach up to Lincoln's head.  For larger trucks, the tread should ideally reach down the penny.  If it does not, you will definitely want to get new tires.
