Truck Wheels

There is a great difference between car wheels and truck wheels. Unlike cars or normal vehicles, trucks are used to carry tons and tons of load. Hence, its resistance is higher and its size larger than that of a car wheel. As compared to a car wheel, truck wheel can take a much more pressure as well. This is significantly the main difference in the design of some of the aspects in a truck wheel.

Lugs

The number of lugs in a wheel varies from truck to truck. A normal truck has a minimum of at least six lugs on each wheel whereas other vehicles use at most five lugs. In other cases where the truck is larger than average, it may require eight or even ten lugs on a wheel.

Different truck wheels have different spacing between the lugs and dissimilar lug diameters. The use of lugs in a wheel enables it to bear more loads at a time. But if you exceed the limit of lugs in a wheel then the lugs will fail to serve its purpose, making your truck unstable on the road.

Truck Wheel Design

Truck wheels are designed and manufactured differently than other types of wheel. These wheels tend to be huge, bulky and gigantic compared to other tires. The bigger the truck tires, the more it can withstand the weight of the truck, plus its load, the better.

Materials Used in Truck Wheels

Normally these wheels come in two different styles and wheel composition, that is, steel and alloy. Steel wheels are sturdy, heavy and long lasting. They can also be easily polished, cleaned and maintained.  Steel wheels, on the other hand, do not come in different attractive designs since steel is a harder material than alloy. The reason is that harder metals are quite difficult to work into complicated designs. Another difference between steel and alloy wheels is that the latter are lighter compared to the steel wheels. This is a point for alloy wheels since the lighter the tire, the more fuel-efficient it is. Alloy wheels also provide a better heat dispersion facility that save your gear from maximum friction. Unlike steel wheels, alloy wheels do not rust and can be cast into different designs as well.

Drivers who choose low cost over quality end up spending more in the end. Low cost wheels may come in a range of various ornamental designs and serve you with a stylish outlook, but it will not serve you the ultimate purpose of road safety. It will not only diminish the truck’s optimum ability to function, it also delays the journey by causing an extremely rough and a bumpy ride.
