What Type of Tires Does Yokohama Tires Manufacture?
Yokohama Tires was founded around the turn of the century in Yokohama Japan, initially as the Yokohama Cable Company. Like other tire manufacturing companies, Yokohama Tires (then called Yokohama Cable Company) started developing specialized rubber before going into tire manufacturing.
Eventually, Yokohama Rubber Company entered into a joint venture with B.F. Goodrich. Unfortunately, this joint venture did not amount to much and Yokohama Rubber Company remain low on the tire industry radar. It wasn't until much later when they decided to setup a tire dealership in the United States that Yokohama Tires was recognized.
Today, Yokohama Tires come seventh on the list of tire manufacturers. It does not say much in a decidedly oligopolistic market, especially when a fledgling company would have to invest a significant amount of money just to reach the minimum efficient scale (the point at which a company achieves economies of scale within the given market).
Yokohama Tires manufactures tires for all makes and models – with no specific concentration. The Yokohama They offer both winter tires to those who are concerned with safety; and summer tires for those who are concerned with performance. They also sell all season tires to those who simply cannot decide.
The pricing on Yokohama Tires is not significantly different from that of its competitors. It offers both low-end and high-end tires, ranging from around $40 per tire on the low end to well over $180 per tire on the higher-end; it also offers discounts on four tire bundle deals.
The Yokohama Rubber Company, which manufactures Yokohama Tires, has expanded into a number of different markets – all of which are still car related. Yokohama now also produces hoses, belts, and fenders out of specialized rubber materials.
